We are in a new year and I am looking at turning 60 at the end of the month. I had hoped the pandemic was behind us, but here we are – Year 2 and the omicron variant is running amok with new variants on the horizon. This does not bode well.

I admit I am depressed. Part of the reason I retired early was to travel. International travel (or at least overseas travel) is out for now, which means my long-planned trip back to the U.K. is on hold. Perhaps in June things will settle down and I can finally visit some miniature museums and maybe drive up to Canada to see some relatives. I need to escape the Vegas heat this summer!

In this new year, I’m keeping busy working as a contract administrative law judge for a state agency. It is work from home, which is great! However, the pay is very low for the amount of work and I really miss my freedom. Time is precious! I need to find a balance between doing meaningful work and having time to enjoy my hobbies. In fact, two big Lego sets are sitting in the closet of my tiny condo. Every time I open my closet door, these sets call my name! One of them is the Lego Treehouse. The other is the Hogwarts Icon.

I love the fact that the Lego Treehouse allows you to change seasons by changing the leaves!

Current Hobby Kit

As a break from the monotony of holding hearings, I began the new year by working on one craft kit I got over Christmas. It’s called a “book scenery niche” and this one is of Santorini Island. The parts are tiny, but the set comes with tweezers, which really helps. There are no instructions except for a sheet with pictures of each part and one insert discussing the importance of correctly cutting some templates. I screwed it up already by pasting the scenery on the visible side upside down from the book cover (not visible). Oh well, no one will see the back if I display it like the picture below 😉

This was a Christmas gift that I am slowly working on completing. The above picture is from the company VIAI DIY Industry and not my completed project.

My passion is small-scale stuff, from Legos to small toys to miniatures to small home decor items. If you enjoy collecting and viewing miniatures and other little things, I hope this website will provide you with helpful information and useful links.
